A Day in the Life: Martin Nairn

With a host of exciting career opportunities currently available across our network of offices, we thought we’d sit down with our Senior Business Energy Analyst, Martin Nairn, to find out more about his role.

So Martin, what made you apply for a job at The Green Energy Advice Bureau?   

I felt like I was stuck in a rut in my last role. I came across an ad online for The Green Energy Advice Bureau and the rest is history. I’d never worked in the energy industry before and wanted somewhere that I could do something different, where I could build a career and really sink my teeth into to the role.

What does a typical working day look like for you?    

There’s never really a ‘typical day’, every day is different. That’s what I love about it. The best part of my role is dealing with tendering and looking at sustainability for some of the largest multinational organisations and, of course winning the business – that’s what it’s all about.   

What is your favorite aspect of your role?

I enjoy getting the chance to work with different organisations and being able to help them reduce their costs and become more sustainable, which of course will help the businesses grow.

What is your favorite thing about working at The Green Energy Advice Bureau?

I’ve only been with the company for eight months but already I feel like part of the family – they made me feel like a part of the team from day one.

I received a lot of support from the team and for this financial year, I’m currently working at 160% of my yearly target. This wouldn’t have been possible without the industry knowledge and support I’ve received from my colleagues.

In your career, how does working for the company compare? What sets The Green Energy Advice Bureau apart?     

Thinking about the other roles and companies I have worked for, none can compare to the atmosphere and the buzz at The Green Energy Advice Bureau. The thing that sets us apart is that the amount of knowledge that you get from working with an experienced team who have worked in the industry for many years.

How does  The Green Energy Advice Bureau apart differ from other brokers?     

Everyone at the business has a genuine interest In making a difference in the way our customers see the energy market, helping them with all aspects of their energy usage and spend.

What is your top energy saving tip for businesses?    

Businesses should review their energy and sustainability on a regular basis.

What do you get up to when you’re not at work?   

I love spending time with my family, I have two young children, so normally my spare time is spent keeping them entertained. My success means I’m able to do things with them that I could only have dreamed of at my previous job.
